RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta -  Indonesia and Egypt strengthened diplomatic coordination as Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anis Matta, paid a courtesy call on Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo, discussing key bilateral and multilateral issues, including preparations for the upcoming Developing Eight (D-8) Summit.

According to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta on Friday, February 6, 2026, the two officials reviewed the proposed agenda for the D-8 Summit, which will be hosted by Indonesia under its chairmanship in April 2026. 

They also discussed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s planned visit to Indonesia to attend the summit, as well as Minister Abdelatty’s preliminary visit in the near future.

Both officials underscored the importance of advancing peace efforts for the Palestinian people during their talks.

In addition to meeting Minister Abdelatty, Deputy Minister Anis also held discussions with Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs, Mohsen Hamza. Their talks focused on technical preparations for President Al-Sisi’s visit to Indonesia and a planned bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Anis and Hamza further explored strategic areas of cooperation, including politics, trade and investment, socio-cultural exchanges, protection of Indonesian nationals in Egypt, regional geopolitical developments, and peace in Palestine. 

The Foreign Ministry noted that both meetings were warm and productive, resulting in several agreements to be followed up in strengthening bilateral ties.

The D-8, established in 1997, brings together eight developing countries including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, most of which are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). 

The group aims to enhance cooperation in economic, trade, and development sectors to foster inclusive and sustainable growth.

As host of the 2026 summit, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia will push for concrete outcomes, particularly in strengthening economic collaboration among member states. 

“We are preparing the substance. The key is to ensure this summit delivers tangible results,” Minister Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 4. ***
