President Prabowo Encourages the Development of National Aviation Industry

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto received President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Glenny Kairupan, along with senior executives of Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, 2 February 2026. The meeting discussed developments in the global aviation industry, particularly advances in aircraft technology and the aviation ecosystem in Indonesia.
Garuda Indonesia President Director, Glenny Kairupan, said that the discussion with President Prabowo took place in a relaxed yet substantive atmosphere, focusing on the dynamics of national and global aviation.
“It was a discussion, a casual conversation about aviation in Indonesia, about Garuda (Indonesia), about today’s highly advanced aircraft. Advanced technologies, and how we must also be involved in keeping up with technological developments,” he said.
In addition, Glenny underscored that the meeting did not discuss plans to purchase aircraft. According to him, the discussion remained at the stage of coordination and exchange of views regarding developments in global aviation technology.
“There is no purchase plan yet. We are just coordinating on technology-related matters,” Glenny stated.
In the meeting, President Prabowo gave directions for Indonesia, including the national airline, to be able to keep up with and adapt to global technological advancements.
“Yes, we must follow the development of world technology,” Glenny said.
Besides, the meeting reflects the government’s commitment to encouraging modernization and transformation of the national aviation sector, while also strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global aviation industry value chain. This strategic step aligns with efforts to strengthen national connectivity, improve the quality of air transportation services, and support Indonesia’s economic growth and tourism sector.
