RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia will hold the ASEAN-ID Blue Forum in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Friday–Saturday, July 17–18, 2026. The forum will gather ASEAN members and partner countries to exchange sustainable blue economy experiences.

The forum is initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade also supports the international collaboration.

Participants include representatives from ASEAN member states, East Asia Summit participating countries, and Pacific Islands Forum members. They will discuss marine conservation, fisheries development, coastal livelihoods, and regional blue economy cooperation.

The discussions will also cover fisheries value chains, MSMEs, cooperatives, and community empowerment. Indonesia hopes the forum strengthens partnerships while promoting sustainable marine resource management.

Director of ASEAN Economic Cooperation, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adhyanti Sardanarini Wirajuda, conveyed Banyuwangi's selection. She highlighted the regency's success in balancing marine conservation with local economic development.

"Banyuwangi was chosen because it has successfully demonstrated sustainable marine management practices. The regency has managed to combine marine conservation with strengthening the local economy," she said.

Adhyanti said the forum provides opportunities for countries to exchange practical experiences on blue economy development. She added business actors and local fishers will also participate in the discussions.

"This forum will become a platform for ASEAN countries and partner countries to exchange experiences. Participants can learn from one another's practices to enrich blue economy implementation. Therefore, we will also invite marine business actors and fishers directly involved in the sector," she added.

Indonesia selected Banyuwangi because its fisheries, tourism, MSMEs, and community empowerment complement one another. The government also expects delegates to observe sustainable regional development supported by marine conservation, culture, and tourism.
