Indonesia Ready to Facilitate Dialogue for Myanmar Peace

RRI.CO.ID, Cebu – Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono attended the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) as part of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in Cebu, the Philippines, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Through his social media account @menluri, Sugiono said the meeting discussed developments in the implementation of ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus in addressing the situation in Myanmar.

During the meeting, Sugiono underscored the importance of pragmatic solutions to encourage stability in Myanmar. “Moving forward, creative efforts are needed to build lasting and inclusive stability in Myanmar,” Sugiono said.

He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continue playing an active role in ASEAN’s initiatives. He also stated that Indonesia stands ready to facilitate inclusive dialogue and share its experience in supporting the peace process in Myanmar. “Indonesia stands ready to facilitate inclusive dialogue and share its experience,” Sugiono added.

In particular, Indonesia expressed its appreciation for the initiatives of the Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has held meetings with various stakeholders in Myanmar. These steps were viewed as a concrete and relevant contribution.

“Looking ahead, measured and creative efforts are needed to build lasting and inclusive stability, as well as a solid foundation for Myanmar’s nation-building process,” the foreign minister said.

The informal consultation was attended by ASEAN foreign ministers and formed part of the series of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and the AMM Retreat, held in Cebu, the Philippines, on 28–29 January 2026. In addition to the issue of Myanmar, the ministers also discussed various regional issues, including the South China Sea, as well as ASEAN’s future direction following the commencement of the implementation of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future.
