RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, affirmed that the USD 1 billion, or approximately 17 trillion rupiah, linked to the Board of Peace (BoP) does not constitute Indonesia’s membership fee. He made the statement after a hearing with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

The minister explained that the funds represent a contribution to support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which has suffered extensive damage due to prolonged conflict.

“So, this is not a membership fee. If we look at the chronology, the establishment of the Board of Peace is an effort to help resolve the situation in Gaza, Palestine, including reconstruction efforts,” Sugiono conveyed.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) supports the government’s decision regarding Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace as part of efforts to realize peace in Gaza, Palestine.

Deputy Chair of Commission I of the House, Dave Laksono said Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace is an opportunity for the country to make a tangible contribution to global peace efforts.

“And we believe this is a new breakthrough initiated by President Trump and seen by President Prabowo as an opportunity for us to make a real contribution to truly implement peace in the world. Therefore, we support his decision and believe this will be beneficial for everyone,” Dave said.

Previously, based on the draft of the Board of Peace charter, member states will serve a three-year term. However, countries may secure a permanent seat by paying USD 1 billion in cash within the first year after the Board of Peace charter comes into force.
