RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia supports the Cambodian government’s efforts to combat transnational crimes, including activities of online scam syndicates. Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia Santo Darmosumarto conveyed the commitment during a farewell call with the President of the Senate and former Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday, January 26, 2026.

During the meeting, Ambassador Santo emphasized that transnational crimes can only be addressed through intensive cooperation, both at the bilateral and regional levels, said Santo Darmosumarto. “Transnational crimes can only be tackled through intensive cooperation, both bilaterally and regionally,” Santo said.

Meanwhile, President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that efforts to strengthen the crackdown on online scam syndicates in Cambodia had begun some time ago and have only recently produced positive results.

In addition, Ambassador Santo expressed appreciation for the Cambodian government’s support for the efforts of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh in providing services and protection to Indonesian citizens. The appreciation was conveyed particularly for the support in handling the influx of Indonesian nationals arriving in Phnom Penh after exiting several online scam centers in Cambodia.

He also stressed that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cambodia have shown significant strengthening in recent years, particularly in the economic sector and people-to-people interactions. This strengthening of cooperation is also reflected in the increased intensity of high-level visits, including Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit to Jakarta in May 2025.

The President of the Cambodian Senate expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and assessed that the Ambassador’s role was significant in promoting cooperation across various fields. As a form of recognition, on behalf of King Norodom Sihamoni, Samdech Techo Hun Sen awarded the honorary medal The Order of Sahametrei: Maha Maha Sereyvath to Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto.
