Minister Sjafrie Accompanies President Prabowo to Meet PM Narendra Modi

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, accompanied President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The state visit marked an important milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and India, while reaffirming both countries' commitment to enhancing their strategic partnership across various key sectors.

As quoted by kemhan.go.id, during the bilateral meeting, President Prabowo welcomed Prime Minister Modi to Indonesia, describing the visit as a great honor for the country. "Prime Minister, thank you for this visit. Our two nations share bonds that have existed for thousands of years, and we deeply value the friendship between Indonesia and India," President Prabowo stated.

Following the bilateral meeting, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Modi delivered a joint press statement highlighting the strengthening of the Indonesia–India strategic partnership across multiple areas of cooperation. "Prime Minister Modi and I held an intensive and highly productive meeting focused on the future and on a number of strategic issues of mutual interest to both countries," President Prabowo said during the joint press briefing at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

President Prabowo stated that Indonesia and India agreed to further strengthen their partnership by increasing the frequency of high-level visits. Both leaders also committed to closer coordination through bilateral consultations and enhanced institutional cooperation.

In the security sector, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to counterterrorism cooperation. Indonesia and India agreed to enhance security collaboration through the convening of the Third Indonesia–India Security Dialogue.

"As transnational security challenges continue to grow, we are committed to deepening cooperation in capacity building in emerging technologies, combating transnational crime, and developing digital infrastructure," President Prabowo conveyed.

Moreover, President Prabowo also expressed his support for improving connectivity between the two countries through the development of ports in India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands. India, in turn, reaffirmed its support for the development of Sabang Port in Aceh, recognizing its strategic location as a key gateway linking the two regions.
