RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Sustainable vehicle innovations developed by three teams from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) earned a series of prestigious awards at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific and Middle East 2026, held in Qatar on Sunday, January 25.

The string of achievements highlights the growing competitiveness of Indonesian students on the global stage and affirms their expertise in designing high-performance, eco-friendly transportation.

Their success was driven by the integration of advanced technical innovations and superior fuel efficiency, showcased across categories ranging from Hydrogen Fuel Cells to Battery Electric Urban Concepts.

“This achievement further motivates us to continue developing sustainable vehicle innovations in the future,” Non-Technical Manager of ITS Antasena, Damaila Fayza, said in a statement received in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday, January 26.

The global competition saw ITS teams Antasena, Sapuangin, and Nogogeni secure awards across multiple categories.

Antasena recorded the highest achievement, winning 1st place in the Technical Innovation Award and 2nd place in the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Cell category, while also being selected as one of four teams qualifying for the Shell Eco-Marathon Global Championship 2027 in Goodwood, England.

Nogogeni also impressed, earning 2nd place in the Urban Concept Battery Electric category, underscoring the team’s consistency in advancing energy-efficient electric vehicles.

“This result encourages us to keep developing environmentally friendly vehicles,” said Firmansyah Permadi Rastanto, Nogogeni Sponsorship and Public Relations Division.

Sapuangin secured 2nd place in the Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category and 2nd place in the Technical Innovation Award. Sapuangin General Manager Candra Ikhsan emphasized that the achievement reflects the team’s competitiveness in innovating energy-efficient combustion engine technology.

“This result is not just about standing on the podium, but also about evaluation and team development for our Formula SAE strategy this year,” he noted.

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a prestigious competition that brings together students from around the world to design and build energy-efficient vehicles. The event evaluates performance through both on-track and off-track categories, with assessments covering energy efficiency, technological innovation, and technical standards.

The success of the three ITS teams highlights the university’s commitment to advancing research and innovation in sustainable vehicle technology, while strengthening student competencies to compete globally.

These achievements also align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production. ***
