RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Jakarta on Friday, January 23, 2026.

The agreement, signed alongside Kagawa Governor Toyohito Ikeda, facilitates the placement of approximately 2,000 trained Indonesian workers in Japan's manufacturing, hospitality, construction, and caregiving sectors. This strategic partnership was established to expand overseas employment opportunities and will be executed through specialized language and vocational training programs tailored to Japanese industry standards.

Under this agreement, Indonesia will deploy approximately 2,000 workers who have undergone specialized skill and Japanese language training to the manufacturing, hospitality, construction, and caregiving sectors. These workers are scheduled to be placed across Kagawa Prefecture for a period of one year.

“Kagawa Prefecture has prepared the facilities, and several companies as the eventual employers have also visited; we have discussed technical matters through language and skill training,” Minister Mukhtarudin stated, as quoted by Antara. He expressed his hope that this collaboration would serve as a successful pilot project for other regions across Japan.

The P2MI Minister extended his gratitude to Governor Toyohito Ikeda for initiating the cooperation proposal directly through the Ministry. During the same event, Governor Ikeda noted that Kagawa Prefecture is already home to around 4,000 Indonesian migrant workers active in manufacturing and other industries.

“I hope this opportunity will encourage more migrant workers to visit Kagawa. Kagawa Prefecture also intends to fully support Japanese language education for migrant workers, and we will continue to strengthen our efforts,” Ikeda remarked. The Ministry of P2MI explained that the scope of this partnership includes training in the Japanese language, work culture, skill certification exams, and the promotion of job opportunities.

Additional support will be provided through the facilitation of Japanese language and culture instructors and the provision of textbooks for capacity-building participants. The Ministry also confirmed that a specific budget has been allocated to support these capacity-building and training enhancement programs. ***
