Sugiono Calls Board of Peace Concrete Gaza Step

RRI.CO.ID, Davos - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, affirmed that Indonesia's participation in the Board of Peace is a strategic, constructive, and concrete step to support Palestinian independence and resolve the conflict in Gaza.

He explained that Indonesia's presence in the Board of Peace is a form of international recognition of Indonesian diplomacy, the country's strategic position, and its consistent views on world peace, particularly in the Middle East region.

“The Board of Peace is One concrete alternative we can currently hope for is to achieve this goal,” Sugiono stated in a statement posted on social media after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto to attend the Board of Peace Charter Announcement in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, 22 January 2026.

The minister outlined a number of concrete steps that are expected to be realized soon after the formation of the Board of Peace. He highlighted the importance of expanding access to humanitarian aid for Gazans.“Within a week, the Rafah border crossing will be opened for humanitarian aid, and an International Stabilization Force will be formed.

This is also part of the process undertaken to achieve peace in Gaza,” Sugiono said.Although the technical details and mandate of the stabilization force are still being discussed, according to Sugiono, the formation of the Board of Peace demonstrates a serious effort to create a safe and conducive environment for a long-term peace process.

As quoted by Anadolu, White House officials stated countries attending the signing ceremony were informed that permanent membership on the board would require a minimum contribution of 1 billion U.S. dollars, or approximately 16.8 trillion rupiah, in the first year.

According to the draft charter, member states will initially be granted a three-year term, while permanent seats will be reserved for countries that meet the financial commitment.

Responding to the issue, Nabyl said there has so far been no discussion regarding payment obligations for either permanent membership or the three-year term.

“We see the Board of Peace as a temporary mechanism aimed at ending violence and protecting civilians. Therefore, regarding questions about permanent membership or a three-year term, there has been no discussion about payments so far,” he said.
