RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s formal participation in the Gaza Board of Peace was solidified by President Prabowo Subianto during a specialized session on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum at the Congress Hall, Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Following a joint statement by the foreign ministers of eight participating countries, the President stood with seven other global heads of state to endorse the new diplomatic body. This strategic move was made to bolster international peace efforts, executed through high-level diplomatic cooperation during the prestigious global forum.

The eight member nations comprising the Gaza Board of Peace include Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The initiative is led by United States President Donald J. Trump, who serves as the primary initiator of the council.

President Prabowo arrived at the venue around 11 a.m. local time and proceeded to the VVIP holding room to prepare for the event. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono had arrived earlier at the Congress Hall to welcome the President and provide a briefing on the proceedings.

President Trump opened the ceremony at 11:15 a.m., an event that was broadcast live via the official White House YouTube channel. President Prabowo, wearing a black kopiah (a kind of brimless Indonesian hat) and a gray suit, sat in the front row on stage with other world leaders and was personally greeted by President Trump before the keynote speech began.

The Gaza Board of Peace was established by President Trump as a follow-up to the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, which is supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. Trump announced the formation of this council last week and invited several global leaders to join the collaborative effort.

During his address, Trump explained that the board would serve as a "temporary authority" in Gaza, Palestine, tasked with overseeing the mobilization of international resources for the Palestinian people. The eight participating nations expressed their belief in a joint statement that this institution could provide a path toward permanent ceasefire, stability, and security in the region.

The member nations also emphasized the fundamental right of the Palestinian people to establish a sovereign state in accordance with international law. However, several countries including China and most European Union members such as France have declined to join the council, stating they prefer to rely on the United Nations for the recovery and stabilization of Gaza. ***
