RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - During his state visit to London, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening ties with the United Kingdom through a handwritten note penned on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Shared via the official Instagram account of the Cabinet Secretariat (@sekretariat.kabinet), the note emphasized the importance of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

“I am committed to enhance and strengthen UK–Indonesia friendship and cooperation. I am convinced that this friendship and cooperation will be beneficial to both our countries and our peoples,” President Prabowo wrote on his handwritten note. His message concluded with his signature and the date of writing.

President Prabowo’s visit included a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where both leaders agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on the construction of fishing vessels. The initiative aims to boost Indonesia’s fisheries sector while safeguarding and managing the nation’s maritime resources.

In addition to maritime cooperation, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational ties through partnerships with the Russell Group, a consortium of 24 leading UK universities. The collaboration is expected to expand academic exchanges and improve access to world-class higher education for Indonesian students.

The President’s itinerary in London featured a series of high-level engagements. He met Prime Minister Starmer at 10 Downing Street, followed by discussions with Indonesian–UK business delegations and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy at Lancaster House.

Accompanied by several ministers and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, the President also held talks with representatives of the Russell Group at the same venue.

President Prabowo is also scheduled to meet King Charles III in London on Wednesday, marking another significant moment in his state visit. ***
