RRI.CO.ID, London - The Indonesian government officially joined as the 11th member of The Coalition to Grow Carbon Markets. Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Raja Juli Antoni, announced directly the membership during a roundtable discussion at Standard Chartered's headquarters in London.
The strategic announcement was made following a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Both have just launched the Indonesia-UK Strategic Partnership, which includes collaboration across various green sectors.
Minister Raja Juli Antoni further stated that this membership is an important mandate for Indonesia's forestry sector. As the owner of the world's third-largest tropical rainforest and extensive mangrove and peat ecosystems, Indonesia possesses significant natural capital for global efforts to achieve climate targets.
"Indonesia will work with countries with similar visions to increase demand for high-integrity carbon credits. This aims to support green growth not only for Indonesia but also for the world," Raja Juli Antoni said in his statement on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.
Meanwhile, the UK's Special Representative for Climate, Rachel Kyte, welcomed Indonesia's joining. According to him, the carbon market can play a crucial role in providing funding for nature protection investments and climate resilience development.
"Indonesia's efforts in nature-based solutions will ensure the Coalition helps drive private sector investment into projects to conserve forests and reduce emissions," Rachel said.
As a new member, Indonesia is now on par with ten other governments, including Canada, France, New Zealand, Switzerland, as well as the Co-Chairs, Kenya, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. This coalition focuses on implementing the Shared Principles launched at COP30 in Brazil to address investment barriers in the global carbon market.
