Government Shows Support for ASEAN Para Games Athletes

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia Erick Thohir, has expressed the government’s support for Indonesian athletes competing at the 13th ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2025 in Thailand, which is being held from January 20 to 26, 2026. The support was demonstrated by his direct attendance at the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian para sports event on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
“The government and all Indonesian people fully support our esteemed athletes who are about to begin their campaign at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games,” Erick said as quoted from the ministry’s official website.
He also conveyed his hopes and prayers that Indonesia’s tradition of success at the ASEAN Para Games will be maintained and further strengthened.
“While attending the opening ceremony earlier, I saw the confidence and spirit of the Red and White contingent to deliver achievements in Thailand. Our collective prayers go to the athletes, coaches, and team officials so that Indonesia’s tradition of excellence at the ASEAN Para Games can continue,” Erick said.
The minister also noted that various cultural values were showcased by the Indonesian contingent during the opening ceremony parade. “Yes, we saw Hanoman and traditional attire, highlighting our cultural values and spirit,” he remarked
At the event, Indonesia has sent 290 athletes to compete in 18 sports, targeting 82 gold medals, 77 silver medals, and 77 bronze medals. Erick expressed optimism that the target can be achieved with the support and cooperation of all related parties, enabling the athletes to perform at their best.
“I hope the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Indonesia and its team, as well as the Chef de Mission (CdM) and their team, continue to support one another, and that the athletes and coaches can work to their fullest for the Red and White (Indonesian Contingent),” Erick stated.
