RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Ministry of Health has launched a measles immunization program for medical personnel and hospital staff in 14 provinces, targeting intern doctors nationwide to strengthen protection against infection.

Acting Director General of Disease Control at the Health Ministry, Andi Saguni, said the MR (measles-rubella) vaccine will be administered to 39,212 medical personnel and 223,150 healthcare workers in provinces with the highest number of measles cases. In addition, 28,321 intern doctors across Indonesia are included in the program.

“As of the press conference, 565 healthcare workers and medical personnel had received the measles vaccine. The program will continue until all target recipients are vaccinated,” Andi said in Jakarta on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

He explained that those who have previously received one dose will be given an additional dose, while those without any immunization history will receive two doses with a minimum interval of 28 days. Each dose, 0.5 milliliters, is administered via subcutaneous injection into fatty tissue beneath the skin.

“This program is expected to strengthen healthcare workers’ protection and prevent measles transmission in medical facilities,” he added.

Health Ministry spokesperson Widyawati said the prioritization was based on the high number of measles cases. “Our current focus is on areas with the highest increase in cases. Therefore, vaccination is not being carried out evenly across all provinces,” she told PRO3 RRI on Friday, April 10, 2026. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
