RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Bandung City Government is expanding free rabies vaccinations to protect animal health and prevent zoonotic diseases. The program was held in Bandung, West Java, on Monday, July 14, 2026.
The initiative is part of the Bandung Animal Health Program (BANGSAWAN) program, which provides free rabies vaccinations for pets. The city government aims to reduce the risk of rabies transmission from animals to humans.
The Bandung Food Security and Agriculture Agency also operates Kopi Cinta, a stray cat sterilization program. Together, the initiatives support responsible animal health management and population control.
Veterinarian at the Bandung Food Security and Agriculture Agency, Duhori Muslim, said rabies prevention remains a priority for the city government. He noted that protecting animal health also helps safeguard public health.
"The Food Security and Agriculture Agency has the responsibility to protect animal health in Bandung. One of our programs is BANGSAWAN, which provides rabies vaccinations to prevent zoonotic diseases that can spread from animals to humans," he said.
Before receiving vaccinations, animals undergo health examinations to ensure they are fit and at least four months old. Pet owners also receive guidance on post-vaccination care and the importance of annual rabies booster shots.
The Bandung City Government is working with village and sub-district administrations to expand vaccination coverage. The program targets at least 70 percent of the city's rabies-transmitting animal population.
The government also encourages residents to vaccinate their pets regularly to maintain healthy communities. The effort supports broader public health by reducing the risk of rabies transmission.
