RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Bandung City Government has launched the Bandung Utama Goes to Zero New Stunting initiative to accelerate stunting prevention. The program was introduced in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The initiative strengthens Indonesia's stunting prevention efforts through a comprehensive, cross-sector approach. It involves local government agencies, neighborhood administrations, health workers, and community organizations.
Bandung Mayor, Muhammad Farhan, said stunting should not be viewed solely as a nutrition issue. He emphasized that environmental conditions, sanitation, and water quality also play major roles in child development.
"Stunting is not only about breastfeeding or supplementary feeding. It is a highly systemic issue. If we want to reduce stunting, we must improve not only nutrition, but also the environment, sanitation, water quality, and every contributing factor," he said.
Based on the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI), Bandung's stunting prevalence remains at 22.8 percent. The figure is still above the national target of 16 percent.
Farhan said Bandung has sufficient food supplies sourced from at least 16 Indonesian provinces. He noted that improving environmental health is now a key priority to prevent new stunting cases.
The city government aims to achieve Zero New Stunting by strengthening data-based interventions and regular monitoring. The program also optimizes community nutrition kitchens and expands environmental health improvements across neighborhoods.
Chairperson of the Bandung City Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) Team, Aryatri Benarto Farhan, said prevention should begin before pregnancy and continue throughout early childhood. She added that collaboration among communities and government institutions is essential to raise a healthier generation toward Golden Indonesia 2045.
