RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Bandung City Government brought its Buruan SAE integrated urban farming program to a global food forum to strengthen sustainable school meal programs. The initiative was presented during the Study Visit on School Meals Programme in Milan, Italy, on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Developed by the Bandung Food Security and Agriculture Office (DKPP), Buruan SAE promotes urban farming by utilizing community spaces to support healthy, sustainable, and locally produced food systems. The visit was held following an invitation from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP).

The Bandung delegation was led by Head of Bandung Food Security and Agriculture Office Gin Gin Ginanjar, who initiated the Buruan SAE program. He said the visit provided an opportunity to learn global best practices in managing healthy and sustainable food systems.

"What we bring home is not only experience, but also knowledge, networks, and governance models that can be adapted to strengthen food systems and improve the quality of nutrition services for children in Bandung," Gin Gin said.

Buruan SAE connects urban farming, organic waste management, and community-based food production. The program has gained international attention as a model for developing sustainable urban food systems while supporting nutrition programs for children.

He said Bandung previously received international recognition for its School Meal development proposal in April 2025. In October 2025, the city received a Special Mention Award in the Food Waste category for its management of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation, composting, and community farming.

"Buruan SAE is not only about urban farming, but also about building a healthy and sustainable food ecosystem that supports the Free Nutritious Meals Program. The experience in Milan will become an important foundation to strengthen its implementation in Bandung," Gin Gin said.

During the four-day visit, the delegation studied school meal management, food safety, quality control, and local food supply chains. The Indonesian delegation also joined workshops on training modules for meal providers and food safety monitoring systems.

The Bandung City Government aims to integrate Buruan SAE with farmer and livestock groups supported by DKPP as suppliers for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG). The model is expected to shorten supply chains, improve distribution efficiency, and create greater economic benefits for local farmers.

Through international collaboration with WFP, MUFPP, and other partners, Bandung continues to strengthen its role in developing sustainable urban food governance. The initiative reflects the city's commitment to building healthier communities through food innovation, local production, and global cooperation.
