RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s commitment to supporting its diaspora through education was on full display at the graduation ceremony of Sekolah Indonesia Tokyo (SIT), where Ambassador Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir praised the school’s role in nurturing Indonesian children in Japan.
In her remarks, Ambassador Kartini expressed appreciation to teachers, students, parents, and the school committee for their contributions to SIT’s academic life.
“Graduation is a moment to be grateful for the long journey taken. It should be seen not as the end of education, but as the beginning of the next challenge,” she said in a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday, June 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The ceremony, themed “Cakrawala Ilmu, Jejak Mendunia” (Horizon of Knowledge, Global Footprints), celebrated the graduation of 47 students from kindergarten through high school.
Education Attaché Amzul Rifin, who also serves as acting head of SIT, noted that enrollment continues to grow, rising from 165 students last year to 187 by May 2026. He said this reflects increasing public trust in the school.
Amzul highlighted SIT’s efforts to align academic and extracurricular practices with Indonesia’s national education policies. Leadership training has been expanded to junior high students, while a school-based violence prevention team was established to ensure a safe learning environment.
He added that SIT students’ academic performance in national tests exceeded both Indonesia’s average and that of other overseas Indonesian schools.
Student achievements were also recognized. SIT participants reached the semifinals of the National Science Olympiad in astronomy, earned honors at Japan’s Meguro English Speech Contest, and secured top-three placements in competitions among Indonesian schools abroad, including short story writing, mathematics, and robotics.
Ambassador Kartini’s message and the accomplishments of SIT students underscore the school’s dual role: strengthening Indonesia’s educational presence abroad while preparing young Indonesians in Japan to thrive globally. ***
