RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is strengthening the higher education ecosystem, particularly private universities, to prepare graduates for the rapidly changing global landscape. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, made the statement during the Fourth National Congress of the Indonesian Association of Private Higher Education Organizing Bodies (BP PTSI) on Wednesday July 15, 2026.

Brian stressed that education should not be viewed as a business, but as a strategic investment in developing Indonesia’s future leaders and expanding access to knowledge. He said universities must embrace innovation to remain resilient amid technological disruption and evolving social and economic challenges.

The event highlighted the strategic role of private universities in producing skilled human resources and driving innovation. Education is about developing Indonesia’s top talent, who will become the backbone of the nation’s progress. If we remain resilient and continue to innovate, the turbulence we face will ultimately make us stronger,” he said.

He added that the ministry will continue supporting efforts to improve the quality of private universities across the country. Higher education institutions are encouraged to strengthen research and innovation in order to deliver practical solutions that benefit society.

The initiative aims to improve the quality, adaptability, and competitiveness of private higher education institutions in responding to future workforce demands.

Meanwhile, Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Fauzan, said universities that will thrive in the future are those capable of adapting quickly to change while remaining relevant to society’s evolving needs. According to the Higher Education Database (PDDikti), around 63 percent of Indonesia’s higher education institutions approximately 2,713 universities—are privately managed, serving more than four million students nationwide.

Civilizations do not collapse because of change, but because they fail to understand it. Universities that will endure are those that remain adaptive and evolve with the times, he said.

The ministry also pledged to strengthen governance through a more proportional and institution-specific development approach for private universities. By reinforcing collaboration with private higher education providers, the government aims to build a more inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable higher education system capable of producing globally competitive talent and innovation for Indonesia’s future.
