Indonesia, Kazakhstan Explore Expanded Cooperation in Higher Education

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Kazakhstan explore broader cooperation in higher education, science, technology, and human resource development as both countries seek to strengthen academic and research partnerships. The issue was discussed during a meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Brian Yuliarto and Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman in Jakarta on Monday.

Both sides noted that bilateral cooperation has continued to show positive progress in recent years.

Minister Brian welcomed the development of educational ties between Indonesia and Kazakhstan. He said the two countries have significant potential to strengthen cooperation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), which are key drivers of a knowledge-based economy.

According to the minister, Kazakhstan is a strategic partner for Indonesia in Central Asia. He noted that opportunities exist for expanding student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and technology development initiatives that could benefit both nations.

The minister also pointed to Kazakhstan’s growing interest in artificial intelligence, digital technology, and innovation. He said this momentum could help broaden institutional cooperation and encourage Indonesian universities to build stronger international networks.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Fadjroel Rachman, said Kazakhstan places strong emphasis on higher education and research development, particularly in advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. He added that cooperation between universities in both countries continues to expand.

Fadjroel noted that dozens of Indonesian students are currently studying at leading universities in Kazakhstan, including Nazarbayev University, one of Central Asia’s top higher education institutions. Academic exchanges have also grown through the involvement of Indonesian lecturers and professors at several Kazakh universities.

Both parties also discussed the possibility of establishing more structured cooperation through memoranda of understanding between relevant institutions and universities. The initiative is expected to support joint research, academic mobility programs, and human resource development while strengthening long-term bilateral relations.
