RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Russia strengthened higher education and research cooperation through a meeting between Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and a delegation from Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) in Jakarta, Thursday, 19 February 2026. BMSTU is known as one of Russia’s leading engineering universities, focusing on robotics, quantum computing, space technology, smart manufacturing, and green technology.
In a press release issued by the ministry, Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto expressed appreciation for the Russian government’s contribution through scholarship programs. He stated that the scheme is planned to be integrated into the Garuda Scholarship program.
He added that both sides have opportunities to develop various joint initiatives, including collaborative research between Indonesian universities and international partners across eight national priority areas, as well as student and professor exchanges.
“We hope to soon initiate concrete joint research programs, including professor exchanges, academic visits, and co-supervision for doctoral programs,” Brian Yuliarto conveyed.
Meanwhile, BMSTU Rector, Mikhail Gordin, said the delegation’s visit aimed to explore cooperation opportunities and recruit international students. He explained that the university provides a special quota, with the selection process facilitated by Russia’s official representative in Indonesia.
“We also have additional quotas allocated specifically for our university. Most of these quotas will be used for master’s and postdoctoral programs,” he said.
Most of the additional quota is allocated for master’s and postdoctoral programs. The master’s program lasts two years, while the doctoral program includes approximately two years of intensive research in laboratories alongside professors and engineers.
