RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is stepping up efforts to secure rice export deals with Malaysia and Singapore, aiming to lock in fair prices and ensure trade agreements that benefit farmers while supporting national economic sustainability.
President Director of state-owned food company Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, said Bulog is moving quickly to follow directives from National Food Agency Head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, pursuing technical discussions to advance the export plan.
“We are acting on the Minister’s instructions to chase opportunities in Malaysia and Singapore, focusing on price certainty and other key details,” Rizal explained in Jakarta on Monday, July 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that Malaysia has yet to confirm readiness for talks, delaying direct negotiations. Bulog continues to maintain communication so discussions can proceed once both sides are prepared, with the goal of reaching agreements that guarantee fair pricing and mutual benefit.
Rizal emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed Bulog to prioritize export prices that protect farmers’ interests and deliver reasonable returns, while strengthening the national economy.
The plan includes exporting 200,000 tons of rice to Malaysia, with a visit to Sarawak under consideration, and 10,000 tons to Singapore. The latter was discussed in a bilateral meeting between Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and Environment Grace Fu in Jakarta on June 29. ***
