RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is intensifying efforts to strengthen the national halal product ecosystem as a strategy to enhance the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises amid the vast potential of the halal industry.
Deputy for Medium-Sized Enterprises at the Ministry, Bagus Rachman, said halal certification has evolved beyond fulfilling religious requirements and is now recognized as a quality standard. This, he noted, boosts consumer confidence and adds value to Indonesian products.
“We see the potential of the halal industry as vast, extending from the wellness sector to the creative industries,” Bagus said in Jakarta on Friday, June 19, 2026.
He revealed that the global halal industry’s transaction value is estimated at IDR 21 quadrillion (approximately USD 1.18 trillion), with Indonesia contributing about IDR 6.9 quadrillion.
Bagus added that the development of the halal industry aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to build a partnership ecosystem holding company based on business clusters, including culinary, fashion, and crafts.
These three subsectors account for about 75 percent of the creative industry’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Alongside strengthening the ecosystem, the Ministry is promoting digital transformation through the Sapa UMKM app.
“This platform is designed to connect business owners with support services, ranging from e-commerce onboarding and market access expansion to business capacity-building programs,” Bagus explained.
Meanwhile, Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, said the halal industry’s contribution to the national economy continues to rise.
According to the Finance Ministry’s report, the halal industry contributed 27 percent to national GDP in the first quarter of 2026, amounting to IDR 4.9 quadrillion.
“This significant contribution has been generated by just six percent of business owners who already hold halal certificates. Imagine, if more MSME owners obtain halal certification, national economic growth will accelerate,” Haikal said.
He added that over the past two years, BPJPH has focused on strengthening regulations, enhancing cross-sector collaboration, raising awareness that halal applies to all segments of society, and accelerating the digital transformation of certification services.
AI-based technology now enables halal certificates to be issued under a self-declaration scheme within 24 hours, once a halal advisor verifies that all documents are complete.
Through coordination between the government and stakeholders, the strengthening of the halal product ecosystem is expected to expand MSMEs’ market access and make Indonesian products more competitive both domestically and globally. (Gusti Panji)
