RRI.CO.ID, Surabaya - Indonesia, one of the world’s major coffee producers, records an annual output of around 780,000 tons. This production is a vital asset for boosting national competitiveness in coffee exports and supporting domestic coffee businesses.
Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for East Java Province, Rifki Ismal, said Indonesia currently ranks fourth among global coffee producers, behind Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia.
“If we look at the data, there are four global coffee producers, and Indonesia is number four,” Rifki said at the Java Coffee, Flavors and Festival (JCFF) 2026 in Surabaya on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that East Java is one of the country’s coffee production centers, with an annual yield of 53,000 tons -- the highest in Java. Central Java and West Java each produce about 25,000 tons.
Rifki believes this production will strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global coffee market, particularly through exports, while also supporting MSMEs, which contribute significantly to the regional economy.
To support this development, Bank Indonesia organized the 2026 Java Coffee, Flavors and Festival (JCFF) in Surabaya. The festival provided a platform for MSMEs to connect with domestic and international buyers through business matching and coaching activities.
Held from July 17–19 at Surabaya’s City Square, the festival featured more than 60 MSME vendors, including 41 coffee businesses supported by Bank Indonesia, as well as sellers of chocolate, tea, herbs, and spices.
Rifki expressed optimism that the 2026 JCFF would surpass last year’s success, when the festival attracted around 130,000 visitors and generated IDR 107 billion in transactions over three days.
“Thankfully, last year’s figure was IDR 107 billion. This year, we expect higher transactions because we’re showcasing not only coffee, tea, and chocolate but also many other products,” he said.
He added that strengthening promotion and market access through such activities will increase the added value of Indonesian coffee and reinforce Indonesia’s position as a major player in the global coffee industry. ***
