RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A local entrepreneur in Indonesia's Bengkulu province has successfully expanded the reach of Batik Besurek to international markets, with regular exports to Malaysia and Singapore highlighting growing global interest in the region’s cultural heritage products.

Fitria Gustina, owner of Oase Gallery, said the business began exporting Batik Besurek fabrics and clothing to Malaysia in 2017. What started as a small overseas shipment has since developed into a steady export business serving international customers.

“We are very happy to introduce Bengkulu’s distinctive products to the international market. Going forward, we hope to participate in more international events, especially in Europe, so Batik Besurek can become even more widely recognized,” Fitria said on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Oase Gallery now ships products abroad three to four times a year, primarily to Malaysia and Singapore. The products showcase Bengkulu’s cultural heritage through traditional Batik Besurek motifs, including Arabic calligraphy, the iconic Rafflesia flower, and various local flora and fauna, all incorporated into handmade designs.

The uniqueness of these motifs has attracted positive responses from overseas consumers, who value the cultural, religious, and regional identity embedded in each product.

As the business has grown, Oase Gallery has reached monthly revenue of around IDR 50 million (about USD 3,000) and employs six workers. During periods of higher demand, the company also partners with local artisans to support production.

The gallery’s development has been supported by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga's Southern Sumatra Region since 2019 through assistance programs that include production facilities, business management training, and participation in trade exhibitions.

the company's Area Manager for Communication, Relations and CSR, Rusminto Wahyudi, said Oase Gallery demonstrates how local small and medium-sized enterprises can preserve cultural heritage while competing in global markets.

“Since 2019, we have accompanied Oase Gallery and witnessed its positive growth. The company not only helps preserve Batik Besurek as a cultural heritage but also creates economic benefits for the community. This proves that local SMEs can move up the value chain and compete internationally,” he said.

According to Rusminto, Oase Gallery’s success shows that cultural heritage, when consistently preserved and developed, can create economic opportunities while raising Bengkulu’s profile on the international stage. ***
