RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Trade has designated 45 products as recipients of the 2026 Good Design Indonesia (GDI) award.

Ten of these products received the “Best Design” designation and have been nominated to represent Indonesia at international design events.

The Ministry’s Director General of Export Development, Fajarini Puntodewi, said GDI serves as an instrument to foster the sustainable competitiveness of national products. She emphasized that design is one of the key factors determining a product’s success in the global market.

“GDI is a platform to demonstrate that Indonesian products can compete globally through innovation and high‑quality design. Through GDI, the Ministry encourages businesses to keep innovating and produce superior, value‑added products with designs that meet market needs,” Puntodewi said in Jakarta on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The Ministry’s Director of Export Development for Services and Creative Products, Ari Satria, noted that this year’s GDI carries strategic significance. He said the award marks the beginning of a partnership with the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) and expands Indonesia’s network of international design awards.

Ari expressed optimism that the quality of participants will continue to improve and that more Indonesian products will win awards abroad. “The GDI winners will be sent to the G‑Mark in Japan and entered into the Golden Pin Design Award in Taiwan,” he said.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Product Designers Association (ADPII), Prananda L. Malasan, said the quality of GDI participants reflects positive progress. He explained that the diversity of materials, functionality, and product applications made the judging process highly competitive.

Prananda expects more Indonesian designers to experiment with design, form, function, and raw materials. He believes this approach will produce superior products while also benefiting social, cultural, and environmental aspects.

“The quality of the products was very much in line with the theme. In fact, it sparked a heated debate among the judges as they determined the winners,” he said.

A representative from the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), Patrick Hung, praised the quality of participants’ works, particularly in the furniture and electronics categories. He noted that the use of materials unique to Indonesia, along with advancements in electronics, demonstrates the progress of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry.

Patrick hopes the partnership between Good Design Indonesia and the Golden Pin Design Award will have a positive impact on both Indonesia and Taiwan.

“This year, the furniture products are particularly impressive due to their excellence, the diversity of traditional Indonesian materials, and the support of talented designers who have harnessed that potential. Meanwhile, the significant growth in the electronics and technology categories also indicates that Indonesia’s manufacturing industry is developing rapidly,” said Patrick. (Gusti Panji)
