RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has invited Australia to establish joint ventures in the agricultural and mining sectors, positioning Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, as a primary investment partner.
The proposal was extended during a high-level meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Merdeka Palace on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The leaders discussed priority agendas centered on food security and resource management. President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia is currently focused on boosting agricultural productivity to achieve food self-sufficiency.
"Today, Prime Minister Albanese and I also discussed various shared priority agendas in the agricultural sector. I invited Australia to develop a joint venture in the agricultural sector in both countries," Prabowo stated, as quoted by Antara.
In addition to agriculture, the President urged Australian firms to invest in Indonesia’s burgeoning downstream critical minerals industry, with a focus on processing nickel, copper, bauxite, and gold. Conversely, he encouraged Indonesian companies to explore investment opportunities in Australia’s critical minerals mining sector.
To facilitate these ambitions, the President highlighted the role of Indonesia's new investment vehicle. "Danantara is ready to collaborate with its partners in Australia to explore co-investment opportunities and various other forms of partnership," he added.
The meeting also marked a historic milestone with the signing of a mutual security treaty between the two neighbors. President Prabowo noted that the agreement reflects a shared determination to safeguard national security and contribute to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
He reaffirmed that for Indonesia, the treaty aligns with its "good neighbor" principle and its traditionally independent and active foreign policy.
The treaty signing reflects a deepening of ties that extends beyond trade to a comprehensive strategic and security partnership, ensuring that economic cooperation in sectors such as mining and agriculture is underpinned by a stable regional environment. ****
