RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon officially inaugurated the Elidan Cultural Center in Lubuak Batingkok, Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra. The facility is expected to serve as a hub for the development of local arts and culture.
“The Elidan Cultural Center requires programs that are managed sustainably,” Minister Fadli said on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
He noted that randai (theater), dance, pepatah-petitih (traditional Minangkabau proverbs), gandang (musical instruments), poetry, pencak silat, and other activities are expected to be held regularly on a community-based basis.
Minister Fadli emphasized that he would continue to support arts and cultural activities, both personally and in his ministerial capacity. He described promoting arts and culture as a moral obligation, particularly in regions with which he shares close family ties.
This includes capacity-building for ninik mamak (traditional institutions) and bundo kanduang (traditional leaders), as well as other village-level initiatives.
“The construction of the Elidan Cultural Center as part of Rumah Sawiyah reflects the government’s commitment to cultural development,” he said.
West Sumatra Provincial Legislative Councilor Nurcholis commended Fadli’s attention to his hometown. “The construction of this cultural center is tangible proof of his commitment to developing his own hometown,” he said.
The inauguration took place during Fadli’s visit to Rumah Sawiyah in Lubuak Batingkok, Lima Puluh Kota. The center serves as a venue for preserving traditions, culture, and social activities, and has already been used for various community engagement programs.
Minister Fadli added that his office will continue to improve the facilities at the Cultural Center to maximize support for local arts and cultural activities. The available space will also be used as a library stocked with books, particularly those related to Minangkabau arts, culture, and traditions. (Gusti Panji)
