RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, said that Indonesia's film and music industries have continued to post strong growth throughout 2026, driven by increasing public appreciation for locally produced creative works. He said the trend reflects the strengthening of Indonesia's cultural and creative ecosystem.

Fadli made the remarks during a media discussion titled "Casual Talk with the Minister of Culture" in Jakarta on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. He noted that Indonesia's cultural sector is not only expanding domestically but is also gaining greater visibility through international cultural events.

According to the minister, Indonesian films currently account for approximately 67 percent of the domestic box office market. He added that more than 15 Indonesian films have achieved box office status so far in 2026.

"Our film industry has become the leading force in its own domestic market, with a market share of around 67 percent. This demonstrates that Indonesia's film ecosystem is becoming increasingly strong," Fadli said.

Fadli also pointed to the music industry, noting that around 80 percent of Indonesians now listen primarily to music produced by domestic artists. He described the trend as a sign of growing public confidence in the quality and creativity of Indonesia's musicians.

To further strengthen the cultural sector, the Ministry of Culture is distributing funding through the Dana Indonesia Raya program, which has received more than 15,000 proposals from cultural communities nationwide. The government has allocated approximately Rp360 billion annually to support selected cultural initiatives and creative communities.

The ministry is also preparing to produce 10 feature-length historical films, around 20 short films, and several documentaries focusing on Indonesia's struggle for independence between 1945 and 1949. The productions are intended to introduce the nation's history to younger generations through contemporary audiovisual storytelling.

Fadli emphasized that the government will continue supporting the development of film, music, literature, visual arts, and performing arts as part of its broader cultural agenda. He expressed hope that a stronger cultural sector would not only preserve Indonesia's national identity but also enhance the country's cultural presence on the global stage.
