VOI Begins Broadcasting from the New Building

KBRN, Jakarta: As usual, RRI Voice of Indonesia (VOI) announcer, Eunike Maria, greeted listeners on Monday (11/17/2025) at the afternoon local time (02.00 GMT). However, there was one thing that made it different: Eunike was broadcasting from a new place.

"Good afternoon, VOI listeners! You are listening to Voice of Indonesia, Indonesia Today program on the afternoon session, coming to you live from our new home, our new building: the International Broadcast Building," she said.

Starting that Monday, VOI began broadcasting from its new studio located in a new building. The building stands within the headquarters complex of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), Indonesia’s public radio network, in Jakarta.

The building is formally named the "Broadcasting Support and the International Broadcast Studio Building", especially when it is still under construction. This blue-colored building rises 15 floors high, with a basement.

Construction of the building started in 2021, and by 2023, the exterior had been completed. As of 2025, work on the interior of the building is still ongoing.

Acting President Director of the RRI, Hari Sudaryanto, expressed hope that this building would continue to strengthen RRI’s public broadcasting services to society. He conveyed this during the inauguration of the building’s construction in August 2021, as quoted by RRI NET television channel.

As its name suggests, the newly-built building will be used as the office of the VOI. However, the RRI News Center and RRI Jakarta will also occupy the building.

The RRI News Center is a national news unit known for operating the all-news radio station RRI Programa 3, which is broadcast across Indonesia. Meanwhile, RRI Jakarta operates three local radio stations (RRI Programa 1 Jakarta, RRI Programa 2 Jakarta, and RRI Programa 4 Jakarta) for the greater Jakarta area.

In fact, the three units will not only relocate, but they will also be integrated. An integrated newsroom has been designed to combine the newsrooms of all three and will be implemented physically in the building.

Previously, integration of VOI, the RRI News Center, and RRI Jakarta had already taken place in the digital realm. A digital integration system enables news content to be shared across the units.

“Until now, news production was handled independently by each work unit. With the integrated digital newsroom, audio, video, and text coverage can now be shared by the entire RRI network, including Voice of Indonesia,” the Director of Programming and Production of the RRI, Mistam, said on Tuesday (10/21/2025).

That noon, Eunike again mentioned the new building as she ended her greeting to listeners. On the same day, the VOI Talk program was held in the building for the first time.

"So stay tuned with us from the new building, International Broadcast Building of Radio Republik Indonesia, with Voice of Indonesia, From Indonesia to the World," she said.
