Barli’s Fine Arts Legacy Reinterpret through “Sasmita” Art Exhibition in Bandung

RRI.CO.ID, West Bandung - Artists from the Anugerah Barli Community reinterpreted the ideas of late fine arts maestro Barli Sasmitawinata into modern works through the Sasmita exhibition at Bale Seni Barli in West Bandung, West Java on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The event serves as proof of young artists’ consistency in nurturing the maestro’s intellectual legacy while revitalizing the fine arts ecosystem in West Bandung Regency.

The exhibition was officially opened by West Bandung Regent, Jeje Ritchie Ismail. The presence of the regency’s top official underscored local administration appreciation for arts activities and efforts to preserve the region’s fine arts heritage.

In his remarks, Jeje expressed appreciation to the artists, organizers, and attendees. According to him, the Sasmita exhibition carries broader significance than merely serving as a space to display artworks.

The exhibition was regarded as a momentum to commemorate and continue the artistic thoughts and journey of the late Barli Sasmitawinata. “The Sasmita theme reminds us that the legacy of thought and creative spirit of the late Barli Sasmitawinata remains alive and continues to develop through the hands of successors gathered in the Anugerah Barli Community,” said Jeje on Wednesday.

Jeje said West Bandung Regency possesses rich arts and culture that form part of the region’s identity. Therefore, various arts spaces need to be continuously maintained and developed.

According to him, Bale Seni Barli holds an important position in building the arts ecosystem in West Bandung Regency. Beyond providing a place for artists to create works, its presence can also serve as a space for public art education and appreciation.

“Through exhibitions like this, we realize that art is not only about beauty, but also a powerful medium to convey ideas, uphold noble values, and build social sensitivity within the community,” he added.

He expressed hope that art exhibitions such as Sasmita can continue to be held on a sustainable basis. According to Jeje, such activities not only provide space for artists to showcase their works, but also open opportunities for the public, especially the younger generation, to engage more closely with the art world.

Regent Jeje conveyed that the West Bandung Regency Administration is committed to advancing the arts, culture, and creative economy sectors through multi-stakeholder collaboration.

This collaboration encompasses the local administration, communities, the business sector, and the public. Such steps are considered important so that the arts and creative economy potential in West Bandung Regency can grow while providing broader opportunities for arts practitioners.
