RRI.CO.ID, Banjarmasin - The South Kalimantan Education and Culture Agency is urging modernization of facilities and information presentation at the Lambung Mangkurat Museum in Banjarbaru to meet the challenges of globalization.
The regional administration is using the Museum Love Week 2026 event as a catalyst for change. Their strategy targets the integration of digital technology and enhanced creative content to attract younger generations and maintain the museum's relevance.
Head of the South Kalimantan Education and Culture Agency, Abdul Rahim, emphasized that Museum Love Week is not merely a ceremonial agenda. The event represents a sustained commitment to foster public appreciation for cultural heritage while reinforcing the nation’s character.
“In the face of rapid globalization, museums must transform into innovative, inclusive and engaging learning spaces for the public, especially young people,” he said during the event at the Lambung Mangkurat Museum in Banjarbaru on Monday, 6 July 2026.
He stressed the program is an ongoing effort to cultivate love for cultural heritage and the noble values of Banua identity. During the weeklong event, various competitions and educational activities drew enthusiastic public response.
He said high participant turnout shows cultural preservation can be pursued through enjoyable activities that also provide educational value. “This proves cultural preservation can be achieved through educational and fun activities. Participation in this event is part of a learning process and a valuable expression of cultural love,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Moving forward, the Education and Culture Agency will continue introducing innovations to boost public interest in regional culture. He hopes youth and children’s involvement will be strengthened through cultural programs not only during Museum Love Week, but also in other cultural activities.
“I hope young people and children are involved from an early age to better understand our culture amid today’s digital developments,” he said.
He called on cultural institutions, educational units and the public to keep collaborating to maintain museums as centers for preserving history and culture.
“Through this momentum, let us work together to embrace all elements from administration, cultural institutions, educational units to the community. This collaboration is essential so museums become more vibrant, beloved, and useful for developing culturally grounded, characterful human resources,” he added.
Head of the Lambung Mangkurat Museum Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD), Ady Surya, said the museum is committed to improving the quality of future Museum Love Week events. One step will be expanding public participation by dividing competition categories by age group.
“Going forward, following the head of office’s direction, we will increase participant involvement by dividing categories by age: children, adults, and general,” said Ady.
He added that early childhood categories will receive special attention so more children can learn about local culture from an early age. “Early childhood education (PAUD) will also be a focus so children can become familiar with and love regional culture sooner,” he said.
Ady said developing participant categories is expected to raise the quality of traditional contests and broaden community involvement in cultural preservation efforts in South Kalimantan. ***
