RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Nyi Ageng Serang Library in Kuningan, South Jakarta, has officially reopened its doors following a six-year hiatus, transforming from a shuttered public facility into a modernized hub tailored for the capital's youth and dynamic workforce.

The extensive facility had been completely closed to the public since 2020 due to a combination of operational hurdles and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its revival marks a major step forward in the city’s post-pandemic public infrastructure revitalization.

"I am sure this place will become a new point of reference for our children who want to search, read, meet, and so forth," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said after inaugurating the library on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Spanning an expansive 4,000 square meters, the library currently houses an impressive collection of 55,000 books. Pramono expressed his hope that the literary inventory would continue to expand steadily to better serve the research and academic needs of high school and university students across the city.

Moving beyond the traditional quiet-reading model, the refurbished library has been outfitted with contemporary, multi-functional amenities. The space now features integrated reading rooms, dedicated study and co-working areas, workshop spaces, and private cubicles.

It also boasts discussion pods, multimedia booths, digital catalog kiosks, smart lockers, and comprehensive services for book circulation, information retrieval, and library guidance.

Attending the grand reopening, Head of National Library (Perpusnas) Endang Aminudin Aziz praised the Jakarta Provincial Administration's initiative to restore the facility, emphasizing its strategic role in cultivating community-level literacy.

“I am confident that the people of Jakarta and its surrounding areas will make good use of the facilities provided by the Jakarta Provincial Administration," Endang said.

The Nyi Ageng Serang Library operates seven days a week, welcoming visitors from Monday through Sunday between 9.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. local time. To access the library's modernized facilities, study rooms, and extensive borrowing services, visitors are required to register for an official membership. ***
