RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Administration, in collaboration with Southeast Asia Museum Services (SEAMS), has officially launched Koleksi Jakarta, a unified digital catalog that integrates thousands of historical artifacts from 11 state-run museums under a single virtual roof.

The ambitious digital preservation initiative serves as an innovative foundation to bridge the gap between historical heritage and tech-savvy urban generations, cataloging the city's vast cultural assets ahead of Jakarta's historic fifth centenary next year.

"Currently, almost 1,500 collections have been completed and there will be many more from collections throughout the museums under the coordination of the DKI Jakarta Cultural Office," announced Head of the Jakarta Cultural Office, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, during the portal's official rollout in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The platform, publicly accessible via https://koleksijakarta.id, marks a major step forward in the province's transition into a globally integrated smart city that protects its deep historical roots. Miftahulloh emphasized that transforming physical curations into searchable online registries ensures a more democratized, transparent, and highly accountable documentation system.

The massive project was made possible through creative financing models and multi-sector international funding, backed heavily by SEAMS and the United States Embassy.

"I hope the collaboration between SEAMS, the United States Embassy, and the Jakarta Provincial Administration isn't limited to this time. Hopefully, we can collaborate on other things in the future. We're looking for creative funding, and this is one of them," Miftahulloh added.

The push for a consolidated online system arose because a vast portion of the priceless items stored inside regional museum vaults remained hidden away from public view due to physical space limitations.

A representative from SEAMS, Retno Ayu Lestari, explained that the platform builds directly upon Koleksi Kita, a broad-scale heritage archiving campaign that has been actively running since 2024.

However, moving nearly 1,500 highly fragile artifacts into the digital sphere posed immense structural and technological challenges for the joint task force. Project engineers noted that many partner institutions still tracked their inventories through fragile, decades-old analog paper logs and unindexed physical archives.

Furthermore, individual museums lacked unified classification standards, data integration templates, or synchronized collections management software. The team also noted that local curation departments currently face structural limitations in utilizing advanced data processing technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to sort and translate ancient records.

By overcoming these logistical barriers and standardizing the city's archival networks, Koleksi Jakarta successfully establishes an interactive digital library. Curators hope the new database will inspire students, global researchers, and history enthusiasts to explore Jakarta's diverse cultural evolution across the centuries, entirely free of charge and from any device. ***
