Sigi Earthquake Damages Over 2,300 Homes, Recovery Underway

RRI.CO.ID, Sigi - local disaster authorities confirmed a weeks-long recovery in Sigi, Central Sulawesi, to focus on shelter and repair after a magnitude-6.7 quake left thousands of homes damaged. The Sigi Regency Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 2,319 houses in the subdistrict were damaged by the tectonic earthquake that struck Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

“Based on data from the Disaster Mitigation Operations Control Center (Pusdalops PB), the 2,319 damaged houses consist of 1,966 lightly damaged homes, 219 moderately damaged, and 134 severely damaged,” said BPBD Head, Henri Kusuma, in Sigi on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Henri said the total number of people affected by the quake has reached 8,586 across 2,762 households. He added that the human toll includes 17 people with serious injuries, 108 with minor injuries, and three confirmed fatalities.

“These data are continuously updated daily and reported to the Sigi Regency Administration,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The agency also recorded damage to public infrastructure across the regency, listing administration offices, 16 mosques and 63 churches, 37 schools, and five community health centers (puskesmas) among the affected facilities. Local authorities and humanitarian teams are prioritizing emergency shelter, medical care, and repair of critical services as recovery efforts continue.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) logged the quake as a tectonic event with a magnitude of 6.7 that shook Sigi, Parigi Moutong (Parimo), Donggala and the city of Palu at 10:27 a.m. Jakarta Time on June 16. ***
