RRI.CO.ID, Palu - The Central Sulawesi Provincial Administration has declared a state of emergency following the recent earthquake, effective for seven days from 17 to 23 June 2026, to accelerate response and recovery efforts.

Head of the Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Asbudianto, said the measure aims to speed assistance to affected areas, with response operations focused on Palu, Sigi, Parigi Moutong and Poso.

The provincial administration has also established a provincial Disaster Response Command Post, led directly by Central Sulawesi Governor, Anwar Hafid.

“The organizational structure of the response command post has been formed. The commander is the Governor and the coordinator is the Regional Secretary,” said Asbudianto on Friday, 19 June 2026.

He explained that the response involves multiple regional agencies and that cross-sectoral coordination is expected to hasten post-quake recovery. In addition to meeting basic needs, the administration is preparing emergency infrastructure repairs as a key component of the response phase.

“After that, we will move to fulfill infrastructure construction. Even though it is an emergency in nature, those needs must still be met,” he said.

The provincial administration also plans to reopen access to several affected areas so that community activity can return to normal as soon as possible. Restoring access is expected to support aid distribution, facilitate residents’ mobility and accelerate economic recovery.

Data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) shows 2,019 households were affected by the quake. Three people died and 108 others were injured.

“Victims are being treated in hospitals and remain under medical supervision. Intensive care continues,” said Asbudianto.

The provincial administration said it hopes the emergency period will speed recovery across affected areas and called on all stakeholders to support post-earthquake response efforts. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
