RRI.CO.ID, Malang - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Center has announced the reopening of Mount Semeru’s hiking trails on April 24, 2026, after a five-month closure due to volcanic activity. The trails were shut on November 19, 2025, following eruptions that posed safety risks.
Head of the TNBTS Center, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, said in Malang, East Java, on Thursday that the decision was made after extensive coordination with multiple stakeholders. “Activities on the Mount Semeru hiking trails are reopened starting April 24, 2026,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
The reopening is regulated under Official Announcement Number PG.6/T.8/TU/KSA.04.01/B/04/2026, which sets Ranu Kumbolo as the maximum limit for hikers. Access beyond that point toward the summit remains prohibited.
To manage visitor numbers and ensure safety, the park has introduced a mandatory online booking system. Tickets must be purchased via the official website at least two days before departure.
The daily quota is capped at 200 hikers, with itineraries limited to two days and one night. Those who booked during the closure period between November 19 and December 18, 2025, may reschedule through the designated link.
Updated Standard Operating Procedures require hikers to enter through the official Ranu Pani gate and carry complete administrative documentation.
Public Relations Officer Endrip Wahyutama added that every group must now be accompanied by local guides. “This is an effort to anticipate any hikers attempting to reach the summit,” he said, noting that guides will act as both safety officers and enforcers of park regulations. ***
