RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A renewed sense of mobility and independence has reached 20 residents in South Jakarta as the local Social Affairs Sub-agency officially distributed custom-fitted prosthetic legs to verified persons with disabilities on Wednesday, April 15,2026.

The initiative specifically targets underprivileged individuals, transforming a month-long administrative and technical process into a life-changing reality for recipients who rely on such aids for their daily livelihoods.

Head of the South Jakarta Social Affairs Sub-agency, Bernard Tambunan, confirmed in Jakarta on April 15, 2026, that the recipients underwent a rigorous selection process to ensure the aid reached those most in need.

"The beneficiaries have passed through several stages, starting from the initial proposal to field verification. These steps ensure their condition and eligibility, especially for those from underprivileged backgrounds," he said, as quoted by Antara.

Following the verification, the recipients underwent precision measurements to ensure the prosthetics were tailored to their physical needs. This manufacturing process typically spans two weeks to a month.

The distribution marks the culmination of a cycle that began in March, with Wednesday’s session dedicated to the final fitting and adjustment of the devices. "Today is the scheduled installation for residents who have navigated all stages since March," added Bernard.

While the current allocation is set for 20 individuals this year, the department remains open to further procurement if more residents are identified as needing assistance in the next period.

"We hope this assistance can help persons with disabilities in their activities and improve their quality of life," he said.

The impact of the program was deeply felt by recipients like 63-year-old Sadian, a resident of Setiabudi Subdistrict who lost his leg to diabetes-related amputation. Despite his physical challenges, Sadian continues to work to support himself.

"I am still trying to earn a living as a motorcycle taxi driver. This assistance helps me immensely in carrying out my daily activities," he expressed.

The sentiment was echoed by 29-year-old Muhammad Taufik from Kebayoran Baru, who noted the precision of the administration-funded aid. "It is very comfortable to use because the size has been adjusted. I hope to quickly secure a job and have a steady income," said Taufik.

By removing the financial barrier to essential mobility aids, the South Jakarta administration aims to foster greater economic inclusion and personal agency for its citizens with disabilities. ***
