RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works has allocated IDR 337.83 billion for road and bridge construction in Papua’s New Autonomous Regions (DOB) for 2026, to bolster regional connectivity while supporting economic growth and public services across Papua.
Public Works Minister, Dody Hanggodo, said road and bridge projects are a key element of efforts to ensure more equitable development. He noted that connectivity infrastructure opens access for communities to economic growth centers and government hubs in the DOB areas.
“Basic infrastructure development, especially roads and bridges, is a vital foundation for promoting equitable development in Papua. Good connectivity will streamline logistics distribution, improve public access to essential services, and strengthen regional integration,” Minister Dody said in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
The Ministry reported that as of 18 May 2026, financial realization for the program had reached IDR 56.03 billion (USD 3.12 million), or 16.58 percent. Physical progress of construction stood at 20.56 percent of the planned target.
In South Papua, works include reconstruction of the Simpang Kuprik–Kampung SP 9–SP 3 Salor road, Segment 3, covering five kilometers. Reconstruction of Segment 4, spanning 6.8 kilometers, is also underway to support government areas and new economic centers.
In Central Papua, the ministry is building the Kali Bumi-Karadiri Airport road, a 1.27-kilometer stretch. That project has reached 29.48 percent physical progress and is intended to improve access to air transport infrastructure.
The government is also constructing the Waroki–Kali Bumi road to the new airport area (4.13 kilometers) and widening the Nabire City Boundary–Wanggar road over 7.25 kilometers, which has reached 39.64 percent physical progress.
To facilitate interregional transport, the ministry is building the 100-meter Kali Bumi Bawah bridge. This infrastructure is expected to enhance the reliability of transport networks in areas still challenged by difficult geography.
Overall, the Ministry of Public Works is managing IDR 1.17 trillion (USD 65 million) in DOB Papua development funds for 2026. The support covers connectivity, water resources, and basic infrastructure to accelerate development across the Papua region. (Annaila Azzahra/EN)
