RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - The Aceh Provincial Administration has officially established a hydrometeorological disaster alert status for several regencies and cities, effective from April 13 to April 20, 2026. The decision follows urgent warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding extreme weather patterns and the high potential for torrential rainfall across the region.

Aceh Regional Secretary M. Nasir emphasized the urgency of the situation during a coordination meeting on Monday, Tuesday 13, 2026. "This disaster alert period is crucial to minimize impacts," he said, as quoted by Antara.

According to BMKG, the atmospheric conditions in Aceh are currently being influenced by cyclonic patterns, wind bends (shearlines), and convergence, all of which significantly increase the growth of rain clouds.

In response to the threat of floods, landslides, and strong winds, the provincial administration has issued several directives to local authorities to ensure public safety. Subregency and city administration have been instructed to maintain 24-hour monitoring by activating emergency command posts full-time to track weather developments in real-time alongside the Aceh Disaster Management Agency.

To bolster infrastructure readiness, local agencies must immediately normalize water systems by cleaning drainage and rivers, while also pruning trees and securing high-risk billboards to prevent wind-related accidents. Furthermore, the province is prioritizing emergency mobilization by stationing Rapid Response Teams and heavy machinery at strategic points, ensuring that essential equipment like motorboats and evacuation vehicles are on standby for immediate use.

"Early warning systems must be optimized," Nasir added, noting that village heads and local officials are expected to actively disseminate weather warnings via WhatsApp groups, village sirens, and local media to ensure no information gaps exist.

The provincial administration is also prioritizing inter-agency cooperation. Coordination with the TNI/Polri, as well as vertical agencies like the National Road Construction Agency (BPJN) and the River Basin Organization (BWSS), is being intensified to ensure that communication remains fluid and rescue responses are swift if emergencies arise.

By implementing these preemptive measures, Aceh hopes to safeguard its citizens and infrastructure against the unpredictable nature of the current weather cycle. The alert status remains in place until at least April 20, pending further atmospheric evaluations.

M. Nasir also instructed regional administration to perform infrastructure normalization by clearing drainage and dredging sedimentation to prevent river overflows. These proactive steps are designed to bolster the region's physical defenses before the peak of the predicted rainfall.

Furthermore, the administration is focusing on emergency preparedness by ensuring that evacuation routes and displacement centers are verified for safety. By mobilizing Rapid Response Teams and pre-positioning logistics, Aceh aims to provide a fast and organized safety net for communities in high-risk zones. ***
