RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Tangerang City in Banten Province has mapped eight subdistricts potentially affected by drought during the dry season. The Tangerang City Administration has designated three monitoring zones to ensure faster and more targeted drought response measures.

Hydrometeorological assessments form the basis for identifying priority areas for monitoring throughout the dry season in Tangerang City. BPBD has also expanded vigilance as the drought threat begins to spread across several regions.

Head of BPBD Tangerang City, Mahdiar, explained that the first zone covers Batuceper, Neglasari, and Cipondoh Subdistricts as priority monitoring areas. The second zone includes Jatiuwung and Cibodas Subdistricts, while the third zone encompasses Pinang, Ciledug, and Karang Tengah Subdistricts.

BPBD Tangerang City disclosed this information as part of its dry season monitoring efforts. The mapping is intended to accelerate mitigation measures should drought impacts intensify.

“For areas that have been designated within the zones, they become a priority for regular monitoring, particularly in terms of water availability and fire potential,” said Mahdiar on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The Tangerang City Administration has also prepared various mitigation measures to address potential drought conditions during the dry season. Elements of the Indonesian Military, through the Military Rayon Command (Koramil), have prepared eight clean water tanker units for distribution to communities.

In addition to outlining mitigation steps, Mahdiar noted that the drought situation in Tangerang City remains under control thus far. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had previously conveyed that the dry season could last longer than usual.

“In general, Tangerang and even the entire Banten region have entered a prolonged dry season,” he said.

In several other regencies and cities, difficulties in accessing clean water and threats of crop failure have begun to emerge. “However, in Tangerang City, thank God, there has not yet been any information or public request related to water assistance and other needs,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Tangerang Regency Administration has prepared 8.9 tons of replacement seeds for farmers affected by the threat of puso (crop failure). The Regency’s Agriculture and Food Security Agency (DPKP) has arranged seed supplies to compensate for farmers’ losses.

Head of BPBD Tangerang Regency, Achmad Taufik, reported that the threat of puso is spread across agricultural land in the regency. Data from the agency indicates that this threat stems from an extreme drought triggered by the El Niño phenomenon.

“The measures being taken include preparing 8.9 tons of replacement seeds, as the threat of puso has already caused losses to farmers,” said Taufik.

“The potential for puso or crop failure covers approximately 43 hectares, spread across 12 subdistricts and 24 villages in Tangerang Regency. That is according to the agriculture office,” he added. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
