RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - More than 3,000 families displaced by last year’s hydrometeorological disaster in East Aceh have now moved into temporary housing units, according to Regent Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky.

“As of today, 3,005 temporary shelters have been occupied by residents affected by the disaster that struck in late November 2025,” Iskandar said on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Of the total, 2,346 units were built in situ -- on the original land of affected residents -- while 659 units were communal shelters constructed in designated clusters.

The shelters are spread across 18 subdistricts, including Madat, Pante Bidari, Peureulak Barat, Simpang Ulim, Banda Alam, Idi Rayeuk, Peunaron, Julok, Ranto Peureulak, Serbajadi, Simpang Jernih, Rantau Selamat, Indar Makmur, Idi Tunong, Peudawa, Sungai Raya, and Darul Aman.

Construction is still underway on additional 138 in situ units and 14 communal shelter complexes. Of these, 112 in situ units and nine communal complexes have passed the halfway mark in progress, while the rest remain below 50 percent completion.

Iskandar acknowledged challenges in the construction process, particularly in remote areas such as Serbajadi, Pante Bidari, and Simpang Jernih, where transporting building materials has proven difficult. Limited availability of materials has also slowed progress.

“Despite these obstacles, the East Aceh administration, together with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), continues to accelerate construction. We are working to ensure the shelters can be occupied before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah,” he said. ***
