RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - Central Java administration is spearheading an ambitious multi-sector collaboration to eliminate a massive housing backlog of 274,514 units by the end of 2026. This initiative builds on the strong gains achieved throughout 2025.

Head of the Central Java Housing, Human Settlements, and Residential Areas Agency, Boedyo Dharmawan, shared the target during a statement in Semarang on Thursday, February 26, 2026. He noted that the figure represents the progress made over the past year.

"We hope to achieve these targets so that the housing backlog burden can truly be resolved during the current regional leadership term," he said, as quoted by Antara.

Boedyo credited the 2025 reductions to joint efforts involving the central government, provincial authorities, subdistrict/city administration, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, the National Zakat Agency (Baznas), and broad community participation.

Central Java Governor, Ahmad Lutfi has been actively working to drive down the backlog significantly by engaging all societal elements, including business leaders via CSR, Baznas, and housing developer organizations.

He is also advocating for swift housing solutions, temporary or permanent, for communities displaced by disasters, emphasizing that collaboration across all parties remains crucial.

This push follows a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, where the Governor, accompanied by the Head of the Housing, Settlements, and Land Agency, joined a coordinatro meeting with Home Affairs Minister, Tito Karnavian, and Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) Minister , Maruarar Sirait, to discuss accelerating decent housing provision.

Minister Maruar praised Central Java's Provincial Administration for budgeting funds in its regional budget to support house-worthy homes. In 2025 alone, the province allocated resources to repair 17,000 units of uninhabitable houses (RTLH).

"I thank the regional administration that has budgeted for decent housing, as done in Central Java," he said. ***
