RRI.CO.ID, North Penajam Paser - The Indonesian Social Affairs Ministry has officially expanded the literary horizons of the North Penajam Paser Regency Library in East Kalimantan by introducing a specialized collection of braille books. This initiative marks a significant move toward achieving educational equality in the region.

This strategic enhancement is specifically designed to bridge the literacy gap for the blind and visually impaired. It ensures that physical barriers no longer hinder the pursuit of knowledge in the region.

The Head of the North Penajam Paser Library and Archives Agency, Muhammad Yusuf Basra, confirmed the arrival of the new collection on Monday, February 23, 2026. He explained that the ministry's contribution is a vital step in simplifying access for people with disabilities who have long struggled to find high-quality reading materials.

By providing these specialized formats, the administration aims to foster a more inclusive educational ecosystem where literacy serves as a primary gateway to individual independence.

"The Social Affairs provided a number of braille books," remarked Yusuf Basra when discussing the library's growing inventory, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that the presence of these books is expected to open broader doors to literacy, allowing every member of the community to enjoy the world of knowledge without exception.

According to Yusuf Basra, this initiative upholds the fundamental principle that every individual deserves an equal opportunity to access information, regardless of their physical condition.

The library’s growth is the result of a collaborative effort, with additional contributions coming from the East Kalimantan Provincial Administration, the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas), and various other state institutions.

Currently, the North Penajam Paser Library boasts an impressive collection of 6,500 titles, totaling approximately 32,000 physical copies. This diverse repository ensures that the library remains a central hub for learning for all residents of the regency.

Looking toward the future, the library is also modernizing its approach to reach a wider audience, particularly the tech-savvy younger generation. The facility has begun developing a digital book collection to spark greater interest in reading through accessible modern formats.

Beyond serving as a house for books, the library is being projected as a community hub for skill-building and vocational training, transforming it into a dynamic space for public empowerment. ***
