RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - Indonesia’s future capital is becoming cleaner! On Wednesday, 11 February 2026, Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara (OIKN) led a major clean-up along the main road corridor from KM 38 to the border of Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara.
The team collected 3.5 tons of mixed waste, demonstrating that even a small effort can make a big difference. The campaign also aimed to inspire residents and visitors to keep Nusantara clean. OIKN also introduced an engaging new recycling initiative.
“On the first day, we conducted outreach to waste banks within Nusantara regarding the ‘Sorting Waste, Saving Gold’ program, encouraging communities to separate waste and turn recyclable materials into economic value,” said OIKN’s Director of Environment and Disaster Management, Lazuardi Nasution.
Plastic bottles now have value beyond mere trash. Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) in Nusantara’s Government Core Area let people exchange recyclables for points, making recycling incentivized and easy.
The clean-up included Komando Pasukan Khusus (Kopassus) Group 4, local forestry officials, and district authorities. Their teamwork shows how communities and institutions can collaborate effectively for a greener future.
“In carrying out government programs, collaboration between institutions is essential, and Kopassus is ready to be present in supporting government initiatives,” said Captain Lefitar of Kopassus Group 4.
This initiative shows that Nusantara is not just a new capital, it’s a city designed to be modern, sustainable, and green. By combining community action, innovation, and environmental care, Indonesia is pioneering sustainable urban development for future cities.
