RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – A joint operation in South Jakarta has resulted in the detention of two foreign nationals for allegedly working illegally at a nightlife venue, highlighting Indonesia’s stricter enforcement against visa misuse.
The operation was carried out in the Kuningan area in the early hours of Sunday, February 15, 2026, by the South Jakarta Immigration Office through its Foreigner Oversight Team (Tim Pora), in coordination with the Jakarta Military Police (Pomdam Jaya).
Authorities identified the two individuals as ZS, a national of China, and KS, a national of Thailand.
According to South Jakarta Immigration Chief Winarko, ZS was performing as a disc jockey (DJ) using a Visa on Arrival (VoA), while KS was working as a dancer under the Visa Exemption (BVK) facility. Neither permit authorizes employment or paid performances in Indonesia.
“In that operation, officers secured ZS and KS at an entertainment venue located in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta,” Winarko said on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Beyond immigration violations, officials noted that the venue was allegedly being used as a gathering point for activities considered inconsistent with local regulations. Winarko stressed that immigration enforcement extends beyond administrative compliance.
“We are not only focused on immigration document violations, but also have a moral and legal responsibility to safeguard South Jakarta from activities that could undermine Indonesia’s social and cultural norms,” he said.
Both individuals are currently being held at the South Jakarta Immigration Office for further questioning as part of the official examination process (BAP). Under Article 122(a) of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, they face administrative sanctions, including deportation and placement on Indonesia’s entry ban list.
The South Jakarta Immigration Office has reiterated its call for public participation in monitoring foreign nationals, urging residents to report suspicious activities through official channels to help maintain public order and security. ***
