RRI.CO.ID, Jayapura - The Papua Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration recorded the deportation of 49 foreign nationals (WNA) across the Papua region during the first semester of 2026, with citizens of neighboring Papua New Guinea (PNG) representing the highest number of deportees.
Head of the Papua Immigration Regional Office Semuel Toba said on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, that the administrative law enforcement actions were carried out across multiple immigration checkpoints under its jurisdiction, including Jayapura, Biak, Timika, and Merauke.
According to Semuel, the majority of the deportations stemmed from immigration violations, primarily involving expired stay permits (overstaying) or illegal entry into Indonesian territory.
"The foreign nationals were repatriated through departure hubs in Jayapura, Denpasar, and Jakarta in accordance with standard immigration procedures," Semuel explained in Jayapura, as quoted by Antara.
Currently, four foreign nationals remain detained at the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) in Jayapura, originating from Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, and Myanmar. He confirmed that these individuals will be repatriated as soon as their respective embassies complete the necessary administrative travel documentation.
To tighten surveillance across border zones and remote regencies, the Immigration Office works alongside the Foreigner Supervision Team (Tim PORA), which comprises representatives from the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Attorney General’s Office, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), local labor departments, and civil registration agencies.
"Immigration, together with our colleagues in Tim PORA, continues to actively monitor the presence of foreign nationals, if anyone is found operating without a valid stay permit or overstaying their legal status, we will take firm and direct enforcement action in line with existing laws" Semuel added. ***
