RRI.CO.ID, Gorontalo - A major investment in North Gorontalo is set to take shape with the construction of a poultry feed factory, part of Indonesia’s integrated poultry downstreaming program. The project, valued at approximately IDR 259 billion (USD 15.36 million), is scheduled to break ground in March 2026.

“This factory will support corn management and drive regional economic growth,” said Hendra, a business partner in the project, in Gorontalo on Saturday, February 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara

He emphasized full support for accelerating the plant’s realization, noting one of the sites will be located in Tolongio Village, Anggrek Subdistrict, where the groundbreaking ceremony for the integrated poultry industry program will be held.

The plant is expected to take between one and one-and-a-half years to complete, with a focus on employing local workers and partners.

“We are following the directives of the President and the Minister of Agriculture - not only for profit, but also to empower communities around the ecosystem being built,” Hendra added.

Director of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, Hendra Wibawa, highlighted Gorontalo’s potential as a major corn producer, with a target of 1.5 million tons in 2026. He stressed that downstream industries are essential to support this output.

“The poultry feed plant is a crucial part of the integrated poultry downstreaming program, building an ecosystem from upstream to downstream, from chick supply and feed production to post-harvest management and poultry slaughterhouses,” Wibawa explained.

The program also includes developing pullet final stock, ensuring all stages of poultry production are connected within one ecosystem.

The plant will strengthen the use of local corn as a primary raw material while opening business opportunities for farmers, cooperatives, and SMEs in North Gorontalo.

“The results of this downstream industry will benefit local farmers and cooperatives, enabling sustainable growth of the poultry sector in the region,” Wibawa said.

Danantara Indonesia will deploy an assessment team to evaluate site feasibility and future development prospects. The findings are expected to lead to collaboration with state-owned food enterprises, local administrations, and national partners.

“The spirit of this program is to ensure poultry development is not concentrated only in Java, but also expands across other regions to create new economic centers,” Wibawa concluded. ***
