RRI.CO.ID, Samarinda – East Kalimantan's Provincial Administration is ramping up round-the-clock emergency services through its Women's and Children's Protection Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD PPA). These services include free psychological trauma recovery and legal assistance to aid violence victims across the region.
"We emphasize the importance of the community being brave to speak up and immediately report cases of violence they experience so they can get quick and targeted access to services," said Rita Asfianie, Head of the Administrative Sub-Section of UPTD PPA East Kalimantan Province, in Samarinda on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
She explained that these services represent the local administration’s response to guarantee citizens' protection rights, with a special focus on women and children vulnerable to criminal acts. Victims needing urgent help can now access a 24-hour alert hotline or complaint channel.
"Reports coming in through phone lines or direct visits will be immediately followed up with comprehensive initial handling processes according to the victims' needs," said Rita, as quoted by Antara.
To ensure optimal medical care, UPTD PPA has forged an official partnership with Abdul Wahab Sjahranie General Hospital (RSUD AWS) for free physical treatment of victims.
Beyond physical health, the unit deploys professional clinical psychologists to restore the mental condition of victims suffering severe shock or trauma after incidents.
"Legal services are also a top priority, providing intensive accompaniment from the police reporting stage through to the completion of court proceedings," clarified Rita.
UPTD PPA recognizes that one of the biggest obstacles to imprisoning perpetrators of violence is the lack of valid evidence when cases reach the courtroom. Therefore, the courage of victims or witnesses to report as soon as possible is crucial to secure physical and psychological evidence before it fades with time.
To strengthen these integrated services, UPTD PPA has recruited competent expert staff including legal practitioners, psychologists, and forensic experts (FEXOS) to complete its organizational structure.
The quality of companions is continually improved, as evidenced by four structural officials now holding official mediator certificates from the Supreme Court.
Rita noted that all staff and expert personnel receive regular special counseling training. This aims to equip them to handle sensitive cases like sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking with a humane approach.
The East Kalimantan Provincial Education and Training Agency is involved in training skilled counselors ready for placement not only in the province but also in subdistricts and cities.
"Mental training for service officers is a serious concern for management. This is important so they do not experience vicarious trauma or secondary trauma from continuous exposure to victims' tragic stories," revealed Rita.
UPTD PPA's commitment is to ensure no violence victim in East Kalimantan feels they are struggling alone without state support. ***
